Mission Statement


The purpose of Naugatuck Adult and Continuing Education is to provide an environment which prepares students to become lifelong learners and productive adults.  Toward this end, we strive to maintain a warm, caring climate in which all students feel secure in their pursuit of excellence.  Our express purpose is to prepare all students to become literate, problem solving, responsible citizens, capable of making informed decisions, facing the challenges and demands of the twenty-first century, and achieving self-sufficiency.

Program Offerings

Naugatuck Adult Education provides the following free adult education programs to qualified individuals residing in Naugatuck, Wolcott and Oxford:


Adult High School Credit Diploma

General Educational Development Diploma (GED®)

National External Diploma Program (NEDP®)

Adult Basic Education

English Language Acquisition



Qualified individuals are adults 17 years of age or older who are no longer enrolled in day school and who do not have a high school diploma or have limited English language skills.  Students aged 17 – 18 must show official documentation that they are withdrawn from day school with parental permission. 


Naugatuck Adult Education will provide counseling and will administer a placement survey to each new student to determine course selection.  Our program is sponsored by the Naugatuck Board of Education and the State Department of Education and is conducted in full compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to adult education programs.  Naugatuck Adult Education serves residents from Naugatuck, Oxford and Wolcott.
